CD or Website - which
one is best for my organisation?
We have no bias whatsoever
as we produce both. The main factors are as follows:
If the information you
want to convey contains fast moving data such as stock levels or products
with a very short life then it makes sense to go for a website. That way
rapidly changing data can be updated at one point, almost instantly. In this
situation CD's are at a distinct disadvantage as they would either need to
be recalled or replaced - and for large batches that can be very expensive!
A major advantage of CD's
however is that they can now be viewed on a huge number of PC's, whereas
only a proportion of business PC's are online at any one time. Additionally
a CD does not suffer the bandwidth limitations of a website and can have
a much richer content such as video, sound and animation. Increasingly these
are available on the web but to a much lesser degree.
To sum up, CD's are great
for use in a presentation situation, or for use as an alternative to a paper-based
brochure whereas a website is open 24 hours a day and can be updated rapidly.
It's you choice - many
of our clients have both, who are we to argue!
